IGANGA SCREENS 100 PEOPLE FOR CORONA VIRUS DISEASE
A total of 100 people have so far been screened for Corona Virus disease in Iganga district. The District Health Officer Dr. David Muwanguzi says has says that majority of the cases are those that returned from different countries over the last one month.
“Our Health team has been tracing these people with the help of the community members and we screen them”, he adds. Muwanguzi, reveals that 42 of these, returned from Dubai, 36 came from Kenya, six from Oman, two were from Belgium while 14 opened up, after getting in contact with the father of the eight months baby who was diagnosed with COVID 19.
Muwanguzi made the revelations during a joint media briefing by district leaders about Corona Virus situation in the district.
The LC5 chairperson, Patrick Kayemba says that Iganga was on high alert about Corona Virus disease given that the district has contributed to the number of confirmed cases of the disease in the country.
He says that in response, the district task force on Corona Virus disease headed by the Resident District Commissioner Eva Kwesiga has established an Isolation center at one of the educational institutions in the district
He says that whereas majority of the cases have been asked to take self-isolation especially in their homes, two people have so far been referred institutional isolation at the center.
He has however, cautioned the public against using mob justice in the process of identifying suspected COVID 19 cases. He says since the outbreak of Corona Virus disease, people have been suspecting anybody with any type of sickness to be suffering from COVID 19 and they try to chase them from communities.
The RDC Kwesiga vowed to continue enforcing President Yoweri Museveni’s suspension of public transport, closure of bars and shops selling non food items among others.
She also says that she had received reports that some people were planning to engage in criminal acts under the cover of lack of income. “Our security people are ready for them. We shall not allow anybody to use this unfortunate situation to blackmail government”, she adds.
