Iganga upgrades seven km Nabirye-Nawansega Road
I It was all joy and ululations by residents of Nakalama Sub County as the district leaders, launched rehabilitation of a seven kilometer Nabirye-Nawansega road.
Nakalama LC3 chairperson Kawanguzi Hamidu, led his residents in hailing the district leadership for considering their sub county with rehabilitation of the road.
Kawanguz,i says that, the sub county had failed to maintain the road for lack of capacity leading to residents to suffer for many years.
He commended the district for accepting to take over the road adding that his sub county will now focus on improving upon other roads.
The Resident District Commissioner Wandera Sadala presided over the function that took place at Nabirye trading center.
He cautioned residents against theft of fuel and refusing road workers from digging water channels through their land. Wandera, says that a road without side channels lasts a short time.
The District chairperson Gabula Ezera revealed that the money being used on the road was part of the one billion shillings conditional grant to the district from central government.
The Engineering assistant in charge roads, Herbert Sebandeke on his part, says that the road works will cost 164 million shillings.
He adds that the scope of work involves opening and shaping, plus putting murrum on the road.
He says that the district is to work on 166km of roads in the district next financial year. Of these, Ministry of Works has 46km, 44km will be done by the district, 40km by Uganda Road Fund and UNRA, 30km.
